Ph.D., Columbia University, 1999
My critical writing has (and continues) to explore topics ranging from the consent of the governed to the relationship between risk, altruism and sibling rivalry, as those topics are reflected in the works of writers such as Etheridge Knight, Norman Mailer, Richard Wright, and Ayn Rand.
Michael Collins' scholarly and creative work have appeared in PMLA, Modern Philology, The Michigan Quarterly Review, Callaloo, The Best American Poetry 2003, and elsewhere. His books are Understanding Etheridge Knight (2012) and The Traveling Queen (poetry; 2013).
